Summary

It’s been 3 years since we left our corporate jobs to work on ABG full time, and although our work looks very different from those days, there are some perks that we still miss. From benefits, to even just office supplies – what are the parts of working in Corporate that worked for us? Do we miss the “stability” of a corporate career? And, on the flip side, what are we very happy to have left behind? __________________________________________ Hosts: Melody Cheng, Janet Wang, Helen Wu Contributing Editor: Haemee Kang Editor: Michelle Hsieh __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • Honey: Try PayPal Honey for free at JoinHoney.com/ABG • Lululemon: Shop the Hotty Hot Shorts and more at lululemon.com __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Shoutouts: Give a shoutout on the podcast here • Email: [email protected] __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to ABG, Asian Boss Girl, a podcast for the modern day Asian American woman. I'm Janet, I'm Helen, and I'm Mal.

0:18.0

Wow, can you ladies believe it has been about three years since we left our jobs full-time and are doing this? Like, ABG is now our job full-time.

0:27.2

We're a junior in college. Three years is long enough for us to have found over them and fine-tuned it multiple times, and also short enough for us to still remember our previous corporate careers.

0:37.4

Corporate careers are often seen as reliable, secure, stable, and that is the reason why many of our parents and also immigrant parents wish for us to have corporate careers.

0:47.6

For sure, working at a fire or more like 6 p.m. for a lot of us had hits, had its pain points, but also had really great perks.

0:54.7

So in a few years since that experience, so today we want to talk about, you know, what work for us, what did we bring into ABG, which is our current career, and what we're happy to leave behind.

1:04.3

Yeah, so I guess before we even start that, let's just give our audience and our listeners a little bit of context. I know we've talked about this many times already.

1:11.7

What we've done for our corporate career, so if you're an avid frequent listener, you can probably skip over the next two to three minutes.

1:17.6

But if you're new here, let's just give a brief overview of what we did, and also maybe three words or three phrases to describe the job.

1:26.7

Ooh, that's actually kind of hard.

1:28.1

That is hard.

1:28.6

But I like it because it's going to help describe you.

1:31.1

Yeah, it's going to challenge me.

1:32.0

Okay, so I was a user experience designer or experienced designer, depending on the job in the technology industry before going full-time into ABG.

1:41.8

Three words, I guess, wireframes, human perspective, and usability, or three.

1:56.4

Did you say usability because it's user experience?

1:59.8

I kind of cheated. I used one of the words in the title, but yeah, human perspective, I like that too.

2:07.8

I'm waiting for your response.

2:09.0

Oh, me, okay.

2:09.8

Any time different.

2:11.0

So I worked at one of the big four accounting firms, doing finance, non-accounting, I think a lot of people assume that finance is the same as accounting, but if you talk to anyone who worked in finance, they're like, no, it's completely different.

2:23.6

So I worked in finance, worked in the transaction advisory department, transaction advisory services, department, valuing private companies, and equity securities, and I did that for about 10 years.
