Summary

We're not so focused on the AT this week, with Luke "Strider" Jordan taking on some of the wilder American trails. His first thru-hike was the 4600 mile North Country Trail, and he became the Earl Schaffer of the Great Plains Trail when he completed the very first thru-hike of that new trail.

On the way, he learned what worked and what didn't. He shares some fascinating insights in his conversation with Steve
You can connect with Strider and find out more about these trails at the following links.

Kate Stillwell, or Phoenix, has stopped in town for the first time, mainly to resolve a blister issue. She and Steve chat twice as she continues her steady progress.

Grandma Gatewood's Walk is a little truncated this week, with only the first part of Chapter 14. The second part of the chapter will be next week.

0:34.5

Hi guys, and thanks as always coming back to the show yet again.

0:39.2

This is Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail, the ultimate midlife crisis and I'm your host,

0:43.4

Steve Adams, or the aforementioned Mighty Blue.

0:46.4

I'm constantly humbled by the amount of people who download this show, particularly

0:50.6

when I think back to my low expectations when we started.

0:55.3

When the pandemic started though, our numbers took a dip, but they've roared back and we're back averaging well over

0:59.2

1,000 downloads each day. In a few months' time we'll be passing the 1 millionth download for

1:04.5

the show. It blows my mind and I thought I'd like to thank you for it. It's a slightly different show today, with the Ablachshund Trail getting only a passing mention. That's because we have Luke Strider-Jordan, and Luke is an off-the-charts adventurer. Today he's going to be talking about the North Country Trail and the very new Great Plains Trail. If you recall my buddy, Clay Bunnam and Evans, talked about the Great Plains Trail a few weeks ago,

1:29.3

and it was Clay who suggested that I get Luke on to chat with us.

1:32.4

And this guy is the Earl Schaefer of the Great Plains Trail.

1:36.0

I even mentioned that in our interview.

1:37.9

He was the first to do it, and that is something that can never be taken away from him.

1:43.8

We've also got Kate Stilwell or Phoenix, as she keeps insisting I call her, still pursuing a

1:49.8

class of 2020 through hike. Today she's in Port Clinton receiving some treatment for a blister.

1:54.7

As we heard last week, Kate is not backward in coming forward, and there's something to say about

1:58.7

that. Finally, and mainly because it's a long show today, I'm going to be reading the first half, Grandma Gay was next chapter. If I can cut this short, I'd have been rambling on for about an hour of the recorders. I'll also be reading out the name of the winner of our book giveaway and letting you have the answers. Now, finally, finally, I'll be telling you all what the next book

2:18.1

I'll be reading on this show is going to be. I got permission this week, and I'm very excited to let

2:22.7

you all know what it is. So let's get on with it. Here's Luke Jordan or Strider.

2:32.5

I'd like to introduce you all to a guy who was described by my friend, Clay Bonham and Evans,

2:37.9

as a pretty unusual hiker. This is Luke Jordan or Strider. Hi, Luke. How are you? Hi, Steve. I'm good.
