Brandon Jacob, or The Dude, returns with the first "Fear and Loathing on the Appalachian Trail." While I'm not too sure about the sound effects for this segment, I think the interviews will be useful for hikers who may be doubting their ability to take on the trail. We ALL have concerns; it is how we address those concerns that decide how successful we're going to be. Jessa has just five weeks to go, and is now attending to the various bits of life that she needs to put on hold until she returns home. This week, she tells us that her last item of gear has been bought. From now, she'll be counting down the days. Keep your comments and reviews coming. They help the show in the iTunes rankings and encourage me to do better. Also, don't forget to email me if you have something to say in the "Fear and Loathing......" part of the program. See you next week.Transcript

| 0:00.0 | Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail, the ultimate midlife crisis, joined Stephen his guests every week as he staggers from Georgia to Maine. |
| 0:26.4 | Hi, welcome back to episode number 22. |
| 0:29.1 | We've got a bit of a departure from the normal parade of Smilly Hikers for you, |
| 0:33.4 | of which, of course, I'm proud to be a member. |
| 0:36.1 | With a few intrepid adventurers already freezing their bits off in the early states of the Appalachian Trail, |
| 0:41.7 | I thought it might be helpful before the first large wave of hikers sets off from anacolola fours, |
| 0:47.8 | to have a guest who knows everything there is to know about that furry, cuddly little creature known as the Black Bear. |
| 0:54.7 | I know that everybody has read that they aren't dangerous and they really are not. |
| 0:59.0 | But I bet your mum or your wife or your husband would like some reassurance on that score. |
| 1:04.3 | To that end, I was recently introduced to a guy I've decided to name the Bear Whisperer. |
| 1:10.3 | Rad Watkins is a landscape ecologist and one of the crazier things that he does is to track |
| 1:15.4 | and take the DNA of bears in the wild. Now, in case you're thinking that entails rubbing a |
| 1:21.2 | cue tip around the gums of a grizzly, you could not be more wrong. That God! Rad will tell you |
| 1:27.2 | all about it in a moment. |
| 1:29.3 | As I mentioned last week, the demise of, if I did it again, made me think about another |
| 1:34.7 | section that I could add to the show as a kind of replacement. |
| 1:38.2 | As often happens, my inspiration came from my previous guest of the show, Brandon Jacob, |
| 1:43.3 | or the dude. |
| 1:45.7 | We were talking about fears, or concerns that one faces prior to the hike and after kicking it back and forth |
| 1:51.2 | a bit, I settled on the structure for the interview and rather bravely I feel I invited Brandon to come |
| 1:57.7 | up with a title for it. So, fear and loathing on the Appalachian Trail |
| 2:03.0 | will be about one or two of the concerns that my guests considered before they started out |
