It's that time of year when we spend the most special magical Christmas meal with people we hardly know.

Family.

Maybe this season brings you to some awkward family time or even digs up some hardship or hurts.

Whatever the case, this Christmas can be about Christ no matter the circumstance.

All right, well, I am drinking some lukewarm lemon ginger tea this morning. It is not as lovely as you know,

maybe a full fat, creamy chai tea latte. I don't know from Starbucks, but I will take it.

But there was this little tag on the

tea bag with this pithy little saying, and I read it this morning and I thought, ooh, this is a good

theology exercise that we could maybe start out with this morning. The quote says,

Compassion is the fountain of forgiveness. Oh, don't you want to tack that up on your little vision board?

Well, friends, we have to be very careful when we read these things because this sounds really good.

You know, we should forgive others because we can stand in their shoes and we can feel sorry for them.

We can understand, you know, why they did the wrong that they did to us. And we can

have compassion and then out of that compassion offer forgiveness to them. However, this is the kind of

stuff we have to be on guard against because it is bad theology, which, you know,
