Welcome back clinical problem solvers. I'm Emma Levine and I'm absolutely thrilled to be back on our women in diagnosis series. Today, just like the good old times, we'll open up with a case and then delve

deeper into conversations on being a woman in a procedural field in medicine.

Today's episode is very special to me, as I have a special guest and my biggest role model,

gastroenterologist, and my mother extraordinaire, Dr. Yao Hang.

Dr. Heng was born in Bangkok, Thailand.

She immigrated to the U.S. in her 20s.

After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley,

Go Bears, with a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry,

she received her medical degree

at the University of California, San Francisco.

She completed her residency in internal medicine

at the University of California, San Francisco, and specialty

fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Washington. She went to University of Brugman

in Brussels, Belgium for special training in Bilearay tract disorders. She has been practicing

gastroenterology and hepatology at Kaiser Permanente since 1992.

She is currently in charge of the capsule endoscopy and balloon enteroscopy programs at San Francisco Kaiser.

She has a strong interest in small bowel disorders, the gut microbiome, and gut-directed hypnotherapy.

Also, another special aspect of this episode is there we're actually recording this in Thailand.
