1:03.0 | So when we think about what it means to be Asian, this is probably a question that has come up a lot in our minds for our community, especially in the last couple of years. |
1:11.0 | Beyond the surface, the shape of our eyes, the color of our hair, the shape of our skin, maybe the fact that we speak in another language. |
1:19.0 | What are the things that make us feel proud and that comfort us about our cultural identity? |

1:27.0 | So to kick us off, ladies, what makes you feel Asian? |
1:30.0 | I know this whole general question, but is there certain reference and experience, a moment, a person that you could think of that pops into your mind when you think of this, what makes me feel Asian? |
1:40.0 | I think for me, if I just go back to my earliest memories, because I think growing up in my home, my first language was Mandarin. |
1:48.0 | So a lot of those years, and what I was exposed to, my family experiences, are automatically what I think about first within my culture. |
1:54.0 | So I think about not just my mom, dad, my sister, but my extended family. |
1:59.0 | On both sides, I had cousins, aunts and uncles that lived in the 66 area, even though I was out in Mission Viejo. |
2:06.0 | And so I don't know, I think the first thing that comes to mind for me is my family, time with family, and mostly around food, as is very traditional. |
2:14.0 | What about you, ladies? |
2:16.0 | For me, I also think family, that is definitely a big one. |
