Hello everyone and welcome to Stephen Kingcast, One Man's Musings on the Works of Stephen King.

Each week I will review one entry in the bibliography of Stephen King and the chronological order of publication,

and this week I'm looking at one of his bigger ones, the long gestating novel about a small town in Maine

in grips of a supernatural menace the town's folk can't understand,

which sounds like every other Stephen King book, I know, but this one has a dome.

That's right, guys, this week I'm looking at Under the Dome.

And just so you know, I will not, and I cannot stress that enough,

I will not be reviewing the CBS television series based on this book,

because when it comes to that,

I just had a tap out after three episodes, and I do not want to go back and revisit it.

So before I get into it, I just, I need to kind of explore my relationship with Under the Dome,

just so I can put this particular review into a little bit of context.

When it was first published in 2009, there was a lot of buzz around it.

Okay, you know, one, it was being publicized as one of his longest books, which in terms of sheer volume automatically puts it up there with the stand and it.

And secondly, a lot of the buzz was positive.

And as you'll know, from my reviews of Lee C's story, Duma Key, and just after sunset,

under the dome was released during a time when my interest in Stephen King was at a low.

Just after sunset had underwhelmed me at the time and the existential examinations of life concepts that I hadn't had any experience with, with Lise's story and Duma Key, just could not connect with me.

So though the reviews that were coming in were pretty positive surrounding this particular

novel, and though it was being billed as a return to classic king,

I personally did not have a lot of anticipation for it.

I read it at the time, and I'll get back to that later.
