Summary

In today's Join the Journey episode, Emma Dotter teaches on Acts 25. What an example we see in Paul as he is in chains with his life on the line, yet he does not shrink back from faithfully proclaiming the gospel. Paul does not shy away from doing/saying the hard things for God's glory.

Two questions to ask ourselves throughout this week:

Are you leading others?

Or

Are others leading you?

Thanks for joining. Have you ever wondered how the Roman government was set up? In today's chapter, we meet a lot of different officials.

What were their jobs and how did they relate to one another? I mean,

0:21.9

did you know that some of their relationships were actually incestuous? To truly understand what's

0:28.3

going on in Chapter 25, we need to rewind the tape just a little bit to the end of Chapter 24,

0:34.5

where we learn about Felix. Who was Felix? Pretty much a morally twisted guy.

0:40.4

Here's the gist of his story. Felix, he started out as a slave, but eventually he was promoted to the

office of governor. One Roman historian said he was cruel, licentious, and dishonorable. And when he was in Judea, he was interested in a

1:00.9

Drusilla, Felix's crush, was already married. But he didn't care. He seduced her away from

1:07.2

her husband and married her later on. So Felix, the governor, was married to the

1:11.5

king's sister. And how does Felix relate to Paul? Well, the Got Questions website sums it up like this.

1:18.6

They said, Felix was the governor of Judea and Samaria when the apostle Paul was arrested in

1:24.7

Jerusalem for preaching the gospel back in Acts 23. Because a mob was planning to

1:30.5

kill Paul before he could come to trial, Paul was brought to Cesarea in the middle of the night

1:36.0

so that he could escape the mob and have his case heard by Felix, the governor. So Paul gets to

1:42.3

Sassaria. Felix reads a letter that basically explains why

1:46.9

Paul is there. The government isn't sure if he's committed any crimes, but they are certain the Jews

1:52.0

are angry with him. And then Felix says the hearing needs to be postponed until those accusing

1:58.0

Paul can be present. Now, Felix knew a decent amount about followers of Jesus,

2:03.5

so when he realized just how intertwined Paul's case was with religion, he postponed it again

2:10.0

until the exact person who had initially arrested Paul and sent him to Felix, sent him to him,
