This is Brian, flanked as always by Simon and joining us for episode 211 is a golden globe

winning actor, musician and novelist, best known for playing Fox Mulder in the cult US TV series The X Files and Hank Moody in the long-running Showtime comedy drama California

a relative late coming to music he's just released his very fine third album,

Jestuland, and he joined us recently over Zoom for a lovely discussion about the

record and his songwriting exploits so far. We're delighted to welcome

the excellent David DuCovny to the show.

You know, this was not a guest I necessarily imagined booking when we started this show,

but let me tell you I am here for it. Me too.

David was born in New York in 1960. His mom was a school teacher,

his dad a writer, and it seems our guest inherited the latter's literary gene because he began writing poetry in high school and later

gained a degree in English literature at Princeton no less. He then went on to do

his masters at Yale where he studied under esteemed literary critic Harold Bloom.

At that point David had designs on becoming a playwright, but in order to do that he felt he had

to learn a bit about the craft of acting so began taking classes.

This proved a fateful decision and a 26 he opted to abandon his doctoral

thesis in literature which remains unfinished at time of recording and pursue a career as an actor.

David took small roles in films like Working Girl, Beethoven and Chaplin and in

1990 appeared as the Transgender DEA agent Denise Bryson in the cult TV series Twin Peaks.
