In the late afternoon of July 12, 1988, the neighborhood search for four-year-old Barbara Jean Horn would end abruptly after the girl's body was discovered, completely washed and nude in a television box, just over a quarter mile from her home.

The hunt for the man that committed the horrific crime and the subsequent trials that would follow would expose

other wrongdoings and injustices in the city of Philadelphia.

Police say the suspect, 31-year-old Jeffrey Dahmer, has confessed to the killings of 11 people

whose remains were found in his apartment.

In the summer of 1988, John Fahey lived with his 26-year-old wife Sharon and four-year-old stepdaughter Barbara Jean Horn in northeast Philadelphia.

He had taken in the young girl as his own and described her as being the sweetest little girl that ever walked the face of the earth.

On July 12, 1988, it had only been him and Barbara

Jean. On the days he was off and his wife Sharon had to work, he would watch the young girl

with big brown dough eyes and matching brown hair. And that had been the case on that Tuesday. In the morning, the two of them had played

together. It was actually a beautiful day. It would only reach 82 degrees, with clouds in the sky to grant all

of those who were outdoors brief reprieves from the sun. And that had been a pretty fair deal for Philadelphia in mid-July.

Right around mid-morning, John had decided that he would go inside and finally get around to

cleaning out the family's refrigerator. Barbara Jean had followed him in and asked if she could help.
