Summary

On this episode we discuss 10 qualities of a smart Jiu-Jitsu practitioner.

This episode comes from an e-mail that Chewy had on his e-mail list. This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, but the first 10 qualities that Chewy came up with.

Here is 1-10:

  1. Is motivated by their long-term goals, not short-term gratification or feelings.
  2. Can focus on a particular technique for a longtime.
  3. Is willing to put themselves into uncomfortable positions because they know growth doesn’t come from the comfortable.
  4. Doesn’t avoid the tough rounds in the gym.
  5. Is smart enough to take rest days instead of trying to push their already exhausted body to the limit since it leads to subpar training at best, and injuries at worst.
  6. Understands losing and failure is going to happen and doesn’t let it create paralyzing fear or worry.
  7. Has a game plan of their style.
  8. Works to improve their diet and lifestyle just as they improve their techniques.
  9. Takes part in physical conditioning to improve the strength and ability of their body. Since BJJ is dictated by the health and abilities of their body.
  10. Trains hard but doesn’t intentionally risk their training partner's health.

I actually had one of my students who just recently,

0:41.9

he just started taking CBD again.

0:43.9

And it's funny because he originally took CBD

0:46.4

and he said he didn't really notice anything.

0:48.4

And then he's been trying it.

0:50.7

He's doing about, I think he's doing 50 milligrams of CBD a day. And I think he, I don't know what he was trying it. He's doing about, I think he's doing 50 milligrams of CBD a day. I think he,

0:57.5

1:12.6

ah, it's not working. And then he started using CBD again. And now he's, um, you know,

1:18.7

enjoying the effects of it. And he's kind of positive for it. So it's cool. So I like seeing that stuff.

1:23.8

1:32.2

get one that's like 50 or more as well. And give it to try and see what kind of effects it has. Again,

1:37.9

you need to give it at least a few days to a week before you make it like kind of a make or break the decision, give it a little bit of time to sort of get saturated in your body

1:45.9

and then kind of see what you notice from there.
