2021 is going to be different than 2020 for Phil Kraft survival. You are your own first response was the motto. We're focusing on family preparedness. Kevin's going to have to come up with a new motto for me for 2021, but focused on you as an individual and developing you in preparedness so that you could also develop your family all about self reliance on this podcast. And here we go.

3:32.0

Kevin Owens. Hey, what's up? He caught me off guard there. My my soul role is to catch you off guard every single day. I know you're like, Hey, let's do a podcast. I'm like, what are we talking about? I'm not telling you until we start. That's it. I want. Here's what I've realized that people can't do. They can't do that. No, it provides. Well, none of these people. I shouldn't say that, but a lot of people in the industry who claim to be experts. Mm-hmm.

4:01.0

They only have it's like the it's like an onion, right? There's there's only some way to be an expert in anything. Yeah, it takes the pressure off. It does exactly. Um, but they you have to be able to reference and source your own experiences.

4:18.0

Um, in talking about education, especially in preparedness. Right. And so if you're just reading statistics and regurgitating that, it's not effective. Yeah, I mean, I said that when I'm teaching, I'll be like, look, there's stuff I don't know. I'm telling you from my experience, what I think, but I don't know what I don't know, right? And everybody is like that. But but some people think they know everything. Right?

4:43.0

I think probably is we're so old. We have so many experiences. Don't put me in the same bracket. Yeah. If our combined ages were, we're dead. But we have, we have an accumulation of so many experiences. And this kind of filled that we probably have an example, not just in ourselves, but people that we've worked with.

5:03.0

I mean, think, think about one ODA and all their experiences they've had. Yeah, that you we know about. Yeah, like I know, uh, Damon went to back to Afghanistan and had this epic trip. Right. Brian left and he got shot.

5:20.0

I mean, all these got a kit, you know, there's all these people where we probably have a reference for the things that we're talking about and time that in with things that we don't know because we've researched it. I think that's that's how you should do it.

5:33.0

I think, um, you know, we've operated in cold weather. We've operated hot weather. We've I've never, I've never operated in the jungle. And I hope I never do. You know, that would kill me. Yeah. Yeah. That would suck. But I think, um, the piece where I was in Somalia for almost a year.

5:49.0

And you were in Yemen when you're a contractor. And I think that piece where you don't have that big infrastructure behind you. The quick reaction for us, the medical facilities, the whole like when we're in Iraq, we the whole way to the US government behind us with helicopter gunships and anything we needed.

6:07.0

That's one set of experience. But as contractor running security operations in a really bad place. You have nobody with you. You had no Q ref. You had no medical facilities in a lot of cases. So I think that piece where we both worked out world brings a lot.

6:24.0

It brings a different element to to our experiences, right? Because a lot of people don't have that background.

6:32.0

Yeah. That's, I think that's spot on because I want to remember you telling me about an operation that you did in Afghanistan. That was considered a low viz. And the guys wanted to do low viz. And you wanted to load out the rig. Yeah.

6:46.0

And and their idea and minimalist, their idea of low viz low visibility is minimizing their overall signature, but also their ability to effectively respond. Yeah.
