a 16-year-old boy who wrote this in the 70s

and submitted it to the Ozark Sci-Fi Association Journal, where they published it.

And then he was proceeded to be mocked mercilessly at weird sci-fi conventions all around the country for this 15,000-word novella he had written as a 16-year-old.

Yep. And we're jumping in below these many years later, long after this ship is sailed. But we're doing it proudly.
