Well, it was like living with a constant adrenaline rush of alertness of danger.

This is Kathy Moon talking with me about how being at work made her feel.

She described her body's reaction to perceive danger on the job the flight fight freeze response a state of constant

emotional upset now you may wonder what kind of job produces that constant adrenaline

she describes well it wasn't the job itself,

she's a college teacher. I started at Ohio State in 1983 and I was a full-time ESL instructor for 31 years or so.

And the students seem to find me very personable and I got a lot of high marks from students.

Her career lasted decades and she was successful.

So it wasn't the work that got to her.

Most employees who faced what she faced can't even talk about it.

I called 11 different people. Some said they were under legal orders that required

them to keep quiet. Some didn't respond at all. Others just didn't want to rouse painful memories.

For Kathy Moon, it all began in 2013 when a new boss arrived.

He began what we called privately a reign of terror.

He pulled a group of younger people around him and they were invited to parties at his house. Older workers

were told to communicate with him by email if you had anything to say.

I did contact Ohio State for comment.

I received a written statement that it admits no wrongdoing

and reached a settlement in order to resolve the matter and, quote,
