Good morning and welcome to the Increase Your Impact Podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 22004. It might not be your system holding you back. Your time frame might be the problem. A lot of elite performers that I work with tend have a dip in motivation, not because they're lazy. They're definitely not lazy, but sometimes it's because their goals are too

0:21.5

far away. Your mind works best when it has something specific to look forward to when the target is

0:28.2

clear, when it's close. Our focus sharpens. Energy increases and you can feel the progress that you're making. You can feel that what you're doing is actually

0:40.4

moving the needle. Long-term goals are important. I'm a fan of long-term goals, but when they are

0:47.1

too far, they stop guiding your daily behavior. So instead of lowering your standards, which in some of your cases, that is

0:55.5

absolutely not an option, you're not going to lower your standards. You're going to shorten the

0:59.9

time horizon. Shift your attention from outcomes you can't control to actions you can control.

1:08.5

And that happens in the here and now.

1:13.1

That's how momentum starts.

1:16.7

And so to apply this to your life, try this.

1:22.1

Pick one long-term goal that you really care about, that really matters to you right now. And then ask yourself, what are one to three, no more than three, but one to three things I can do every day this week that will increase the probability of getting to my long term goal?

1:35.6

We're not talking about sprints. We're not talking about achieving it in two weeks or three weeks.

1:40.4

We're playing the long game. You're trying to design to design systems, a system that could

1:47.6

where the output, where the goal is the output, it's going to happen because of the systems you're

1:53.4

implementing. Make these behaviors so small that you can't not do them just to start because it's about building momentum

2:02.9

and do these things for seven straight days. Try for seven days and then go back and reassess it

2:07.8

because momentum generates motivation. Don't worry about being motivated. Don't worry about all of that.

2:14.8

Just gain momentum. And so my invitation to you today is that once

2:20.5

again, ask yourself that question. What is long-term goal that I want to achieve down the road,

2:25.3

let's just say in a year, and what are one to three things I can do every single day that will

2:30.1

increase the probability of me achieving that goal in one year.

2:37.2

Have a great day and we'll do it again next time.
