2006. A couple days ago, I was with an NFL football team and me and some of the coaches

were talking about self-awareness and that true leadership, in order to have true leadership

and be a great leader, you need to cultivate

self-awareness and situational awareness.

And it reminded me of what Sam Altman said about this topic.

He said this self-belief must be balanced with self-awareness.

I used to hate criticism of any sort and actively avoided it.

Now I try to always listen to it with the assumption

that it's true and then decide if I want to act on it or not. Truth seeking is hard and often painful,

but it is what separates self-belief from self-delusion, close quote. I love that notion of truth seeking and self-awareness requires

being willing to stare at the brutal facts in the face, is being willing to take the truth from

somebody who we trust to tell us what we're doing wrong to shine a light on our blind spots.

And so my question to you is, what's your perspective on receiving criticism?

What's your perspective on having someone shine a light on your blind spots to expose your

weaknesses so that you can get

better. My invitation to you is to find someone you trust and invite them to tell you the truth,

to tell you what you need to hear. Maybe not what you want to hear, but what you need to hear.

And the higher up you go on the hierarchy, on the on the on the chain, the stronger the

power dynamics and the less safe people might feel to share with you with the truth. And so you find

yourself getting to a leadership position, getting to the top and you're surrounded by a whole

bunch of guess people, people who are afraid to tell you the truth
