| 0:00.0 | Good morning and welcome to the Increase Your Impact podcast. I'm Justin Sue, episode |
| 0:05.0 | 2006. I recently heard this story of astronaut training. There was this young rookie astronaut |
| 0:12.1 | named Mike, and he was doing a drill in the pool. Now, at this time, he had to learn how to do a series of tasks and not get tangled in his |
| 0:23.6 | tether or this leash that was around him. |
| 0:26.6 | And as he was going through the drill, he noticed that he was starting to make some mistakes. |
| 0:31.8 | And he didn't want to bring undue attention to himself. |
| 0:34.6 | And so he tried to get rid of the mistake quickly but what ended up happening is |
| 0:40.0 | the tether started to take get wrapped around his helmet and then his work instruments and then his |
| 0:47.1 | body and what started as a simple little tangle turned into him getting completely engulfed in his tether. And so his partner, |

| 1:13.1 | And Mike says, well, it didn't start out really bad, but then I rushed and I didn't ask for help, |

| 1:25.1 | And Jim goes, what's Hoot's Law? And he says, it's something Hout Gibson used to say during his |
| 1:31.2 | astronaut days. And this is Hutz law. No matter how bad things may seem, you can always make it worse. |
| 1:39.7 | I'm going to say Hutz law again. No matter how bad things seem, you can always make things worse. |
| 1:47.4 | And then Mike goes on to write and to say that it would have been better to slow down, |
| 1:54.4 | take a minute, appraise a situation before speedily acting on. |
| 2:00.0 | In other words, it would have been better to do nothing until he figured |
| 2:03.7 | out what had happened before he rushed into action. And I find that such a powerful lesson. |
| 2:10.8 | And I want to read that Hootslaw once again. No matter how bad things may seem, you can always make it |
| 2:16.4 | worse. And so as you look at your |
