Boebuck is the author of No God But Us, a new novel about two Afghan queers in Istanbul, one of whom has come to Istanbul from the U.S., the other of whom was previously living as a refugee in Tehran.

As you'll hear in the interview, this book has a lot to say about borders and immigration and

protest and global politics and queer community, and I'm excited for you to read it when it comes

out later this month. In this week's episode, Bobik and I talk about queer political organizing

in different parts of the world, because by the way, Bobak has lived in Australia, Miami, New

York, Berlin, Turkey, and more. We also talk about shortcomings and

immigrant literature, organizing with writers against the war on Gaza, doing representation for

white trans guys with a savior complex who are bad at Polly. I know in my life, there are

many people who have been terrorized by, you know, a white trans guy. And writing a book to heal your mommy issues.

I could never get my mother into a therapy session, but instead I just wrote 280-page

novel.
