Summary

This week on the podcast I had an awesome conversation with Ben Rosario, head coach of HOKA Northern Arizona Elite, and Matt Fitzgerald, co-founder of 80/20 Endurance and prolific author of endurance sports titles, about their new book, Run Like A Pro (Even If You’re Slow), which was recently published. This was more of a Coaches Corner discussion than my typical interview-style show and in it we discussed what amateur runners can learn from their professional counterparts while covering topics like training volume, recovery, nutrition, having a champion’s mindset, and a lot more.

I think it's important that you just want to answer that question, they just want to

see how good they can be.

They don't cut up in arbitrary times or what other people think or in amateur runner

terms, what the Boston qualifier is for their particular age group, they don't think

that way.

0:23.1

And a lot of people do, and a lot of people are wired that way, but a champion just wants

0:26.3

to get the most out of themselves, and they enjoy the hardest parts of training and

racing, that that's really a champion.

0:35.9

Hey, what's up everyone, it's your host, Mario Freoly, and we are trying something

a little different this week.

On the other side of the mic for this introduction is Chris Douglas, my right hand man and sponsorship

1:04.2

director for the morning shake out, I've never admitted this publicly, at least not on

1:10.2

this podcast, but my least favorite thing to do for the podcast is the introduction and

the sponsorship reads because it's just me staring at a computer screen, reading office

script to make sure that I don't forget anything that I'm supposed to say.

So I'm bringing Chris in for this one so we can have more of a conversation about the upcoming

1:30.1

episode, what it's about, and what you can look forward to in it, also to talk about

1:35.5

the sponsors for this episode, and then we'll get right into it.

1:39.2

But Chris, thank you so much for joining me in this little introduction experiment.

No worries, happy to be here.

1:47.0

What do we got on tap for this week?
