Abbott defies Starmor with vow to remain MP for as long as possible.

This is the Diane Abbott saga, the former Shadow Home Secretary.

Nearly 40 years Labour MP was suspended, had the whip removed a year ago pending an investigation after she disputed,

well, she gave an interview to the observer and she said in her opinion,

travellers and Jews and other groups didn't face racism their entire lives, like black people.

That's pretty innocuous, you might have thought.

But out she went and an investigation ensued, which went on and on and on, like Aristan and on, you've got to be very old

to get the Arreston reference, went on forever. The leader of the Labour Party, Kierstarmour,

recently said the investigation was ongoing. He was lying through his teeth. It concluded last December. Abbott was left in limbo.

Yesterday, she declared that she had been told that she would not be allowed to stand for the Labour

Party in the forthcoming election. Kier Stammer said no decision has been made. This isn't true. No decision has been made on whether she could stand or not.

Now just before all of this, the whip had been restored, so she had been welcomed back into the parliamentary party. It's a saga indeed.

I'm going to talk about it briefly in the context of career politicians. In a few
