Summary

This week the guys review the latest roster moves by the Detroit Lions and dive into 2021 Free Agency, giving a position by position breakdown of the players that GM Brad Holmes may be targeting next week.

The guys open by discussing that the Lions elected not to use the franchise tag and debate whether or not that was the right decision.

Next, the Lions also made several moves this week leading up to free agency in order to improve their cap situation. Details on LB Jamie Collins restructure were released, WR Tyrell Williams’ contract details came to light, and CB Mike Ford was re-signed to a 1-year contract. Also, in addition to planning on releasing CB Desmond Trufant, the Lions also plan to release CB Justin Coleman, while the team did release LB Christian Jones and C Russell Bodine from the roster.

Finally, the guys examine Free Agency, going through the available prospects. position by position, discussing needs, who the big targets are, where the value players are, and any players who have connections to the Lions coaching staff.

Eric and the words of the great Homer Simpson.

0:23.5

Now it's time for the easiest part of the coach's job, the cuts.

0:27.9

And that's where the lines are at this week as the new league year starts on the 14th, right?

0:34.5

The 15th tampering can begin.

0:37.1

The 17th is when it officially begins. Yeah. So the 15th, though,

0:41.6

we're going to start hearing about contracts getting made and handshake deals and stuff like that.

0:47.4

But yeah, officially, like, it's the 17th. That's when the golf trade will happen. And we'll see more cuts probably then. We saw some more this week. We've been told of some other ones. So that's a bunch going on right now. Already clear in some room. Just like you said, with the golf trade coming up, they had a clear bunch of room to get under the cap for the golf move to go through.

1:12.8

Yeah. So I want to actually point something out real fast.

1:17.3

Just so there's a lot of talk about like where they are with the salary cap right now and

1:22.1

are they going to be under when the elite new year starts? Are they going to be be cap compliant which is they have to be right

1:29.3

they will be right now they are actually in a good spot i think they're close to even uh they might

1:36.7

even be a little bit above the cap or you know they'll have some spending money uh maybe like a

1:43.1

little less than a million dollars right now.

1:45.2

But that's once you factor in all the moves.

1:48.0

Because the golf trade can't happen, the lions actually have more money to be above the cap,

1:57.6

to be in a good spot because the trade has not happened yet. Once that trade

2:01.9

happens, then the money is going to switch around and then the lines are going to get a bigger hit.

2:06.4

That's when they're going to take the Stafford cap hit. Right now they haven't taken that
