Summary

Kulap Vilaysack’s career path was not a linear one, but it landed her in Hollywood – from Nurse Kulap in Childrens Hospital to guest roles on Bob’s Burgers, The Office, and more. Over the course of her decades-long career, she has witnessed the media and entertainment industries evolve and change for the better. From her experiences as an actress, comedian, writer and showrunner, Kulap has seen that representation must start from the top of the ladder, and goes beyond simply casting diverse actors.  On this episode, Kulap shares her own origin story, and how it led her to starting Laos Angeles, a movement for the Laos diaspora that seeks to amplify their identity and representation in mainstream media, as well as her favorite part of co-hosting the podcast “Add to Cart” with SuChin Pak (who we interviewed on Episode 181)! AsianBossGirl is turning 5 years old! To celebrate, we are hosting a Happy Hour event in Los Angeles on September 16th. RSVP at our Eventbrite link here! Cocktails, mocktails, and light bites will be provided. Spots are limited, so sign up soon!  __________________________________________ Hosts: Melody Cheng and Janet Wang Contributing Editor: Haemee Kang Editor: Michelle Hsieh __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • Everlywell: Get 20% off your first at-home lab test at everlywell.com/abg • First Republic Bank: Visit firstrepublic.com • Stitch Fix: Get $20 off your first purchase at stitchfix.com/abg __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Shoutouts: Give a shoutout on the podcast here • Email: hello@asianbossgirl.com __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices.
