So we're back for part two of Billy Holiday and I just wanted to

Re-up my sources on this episode. We I used Stuart Nicholson's biography Billy Holiday and her autobiography Lady sings the blues

So last week we ended in the mid-40s Billy Holiday is hooked on heroin now

While at the same time she is entering what many consider to be her peak performing years in

September of 1943 life magazine wrote about her she has the most distinct style of any popular vocalist and is often

imitated by other vocalists so she's really becoming a huge influence as well

Mitt Gabler who at this time was an a&r guy for Decker Records, which is a huge record label

Science Billy Holiday on August 7th 1944 when she is 29 years old

Now by this point in her career a song called leverman was a regular part of her set

But she had never recorded it so that would be her first Decker recording

This song would be one of her biggest hits

It would be number 16 on the pop charts, which is like definitely a crossover

material the success and distribution of the song made her a staple in the pop community and
