Summary

Hello friends! It's been a minute, but I'm back on this show I love so much, talking Tudor nerdiness with friends like you. This episode is a personal share about what's been going on, and also dives into the history of religious fasting in the 16th century - what reformers thought about it, and why it became an economic issue for England beyond the religious sphere. Show notes at Englandcast.com/fasting Also, Tudorcon tickets at englandcast.com/Tudorcon And the Tudor Planner Indiegogo is here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/publishing-the-2023-tudor-planner/x/176575#/ Thank you for all your support and love and virtual hugs. Hello and welcome to the Renaissance English History podcast, still a part of the Agora Podcast. At least I think it is. I haven't been told otherwise. I'm still your host, Heather Tesco,

0:22.2

and I'm still a storyteller. Who makes history accessible because I believe it's a pathway to

0:27.1

understanding who we are, our place in the universe, and being more deeply in touch with our

0:32.6

own humanity. This is episode 176, and it will be on religious fasting because that's just the kind of nerd I am.

0:42.3

Also, it's been a minute.

And I have a couple of things to personally share before I start this episode.

A lot of you wrote to me asking me if I was okay because it's been so long and I sort of

0:55.2

disappeared from the podcasting world without a word of goodbye and I'm suddenly ending all of my

1:00.9

sentences and upward inflections. I think I kind of reached a wall from last September

1:07.8

until about two weeks ago, we have been ridiculously nomadic.

1:13.8

We went from Spain to Pennsylvania for TudorCon and a visit.

1:17.2

That was October.

1:18.5

While we were there, we decided that we were officially moving back home.

1:22.6

So then we went to California for an extended visit, which had been planned anyway. But having made the

1:29.6

decision to move back home, we decided to sell our house in the mountains of Southern California,

1:34.7

which really kind of broke my heart. It was our first house that we bought right before the

1:41.4

market crash. It wasn't the best timing. But, you know, it was a special place to me,

1:46.4

still is. And then we went back to Pennsylvania for Christmas and then back to Spain to pack up

1:54.1

our lives and say goodbye to our friends. And at that point, I was professionally contracting with

2:00.2

two different library groups, which is my career.

2:03.0

I work with libraries on technology and journal procurement, all that kind of stuff.

2:06.9

So I was working really crazy hours, which I said was to keep my mind off of all of the things I had to do with the move.
