and we're talking about that with Jody Magnus who teaches early Judaism at the University of

North Carolina Chapel Hill. Yeah, she's an archaeologist and we had a fascinating discussion.

fascinating. And if you want to read more, Jody's published a bunch of books, one of which is the

you about the end. And also a wonderful title, Stone and Dung Oil and Spit Jewish Daily Life

in the time of Jesus, which is one of her areas of expertise. So, I had a great time talking

with her and enjoy the episode. Both Archaeologists and historians study the past.

The difference is the sources of information that we use to derive information about the past.

Historians focus on written sources. Things people wrote down and left behind. Archaeology

is the study of human material culture. Anything that people manufactured and left behind. And then

we dig up out of the ground, that's what Archaeologist study.

How did I get into Archaeology? I wanted to be an Archaeologist since I was 12 years old.

Thanks to a seventh grade teacher, history teacher. We learned about the ancient world and I fell

in love with ancient Greece. My interest ever since then was in the classical world. It was at about

that time that I was finding fossils of shells at Girl's Camp. Anyway, it all came together.
