Summary

Jeff Ditzenberger takes mental health very seriously as a farmer and a veteran, two communities with some of the highest suicide rates in the country. When it comes to asking a friend how they are, he explains that “I’d rather spend an hour listening to all the things that are causing you angst, than sit and listen to your eulogy for five minutes.” He stresses the importance of being vulnerable, regardless of gender, generation or occupation, and encourages people to talk about the uncomfortable parts of life. As a return Cripescast guest, he updates the listeners about his non-profit TUGS, provides resources for those struggling with mental health, and shares a story about how he saved someone’s life with a simple act of kindness. Jeff and Charlie taste test some pickle-flavored ranch and debate whether or not Charlie “stole” or “borrowed” a glazer from Jeff the first time he was on the show.

For more information about TUGS, go to tugsgroup.com or find them on Facebook at @tugsgroup, and you can find Jeff on Instagram at @ditzisms or on Facebook at Jeff Ditzenberger.

Before we dive into things, just a couple of notes off the top first. If it sounds a little different,

0:22.5

that's because I'm doing this Krebscast from the road. We had a lot of great shows down south.

You know, down south for being from up north, Kansas City, Springfield, Wichita, Evansville,

Before we dive into today's episode, which is an interview with my buddy, Jeff Ditzenberger.

0:54.0

It's his second time on the Krebscast. He was on the Farmers episode. Basically, I just want to

1:00.5

give a plug for doctors without borders. And I should have maybe been watching the tragic news

1:05.9

over the past couple of weeks. The violence in the Middle East obviously is nothing new.

1:11.7

It's been going on for decades, but you know, the loss of civilian life over the past week has been

1:16.8

nothing sort of heartbreaking. And that civilian death toll may be exponentially higher in the

1:24.5

next few days, depending on what happens in the Gaza Strip. And with all that said, it's easy to

1:30.7

feel like you can't do anything. But one thing you can do is donate to doctors without borders.

1:35.8

I've got a great track record. We've worked with them for a while. We've linked them up in the

1:40.8

show notes if you'd like to donate. Doctors without borders for those of you don't know their

organization that basically seeks to give humanitarian and healthcare aid around the world to places

that need it most. Specifically, on this situation, they've said, quote, they're actively working

on preparing medical and humanitarian supplies to be sent to Gaza when access is open.
