Hello and welcome to the Renaissance English History podcast, a part of the Agora podcast network. I'm your host, Heather Tesco, and I'm a storyteller who makes history accessible

0:31.7

because I believe it's a pathway to understanding who we are, our place in the universe,

0:36.8

and being much more deeply in touch with

0:38.6

our own humanity. This is episode 169, and it's all about Henry VIII's inventory. I got

0:46.4

bit of it to the crown.

1:44.2

And that estate then that belonged to the crown passed from monarch to monarch.

1:49.3

It took about 18 months to complete this inventory.

1:52.6

And the way they did it, they had specialists going out to all of the different palaces,

1:57.4

all of the different country homes that Henry had when he died.

2:00.5

There were a total of 55 homes that Henry had when he died. There were a total of

2:01.3

55 homes that Henry owned when he died. Plus, there were things like forts and ships that

2:08.5

officially belonged to the crown that had stuff on them. So that all had to be inventoried as well.
