Summary

This week, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the legality of President Trump’s 2025 executive order, which aims to eliminate birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants or temporary residents. Georgetown Law Professor Steve Vladeck joins Asha and Renato to review what happened in court and to break down how the justices reacted to the Trump administration’s “very quirky” arguments on reversing a century-long understanding of citizenship. Then, Renato and Asha discuss how the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has become MIA. They explain why the OIG is so important to oversight of the DOJ and its exercise of governmental power. Listen up! Supreme Court Oral Argument Audio in Trump v.
