I'm Hello, How did I not see this coming? I guess I didn't think this through.

0:41.2

Hello and welcome back to another episode of the year of polygamy podcast.

0:44.6

I'm your host, Lindsay, and today we are wrapping up our little mini series on the Word

0:48.3

of Wisdom.

0:49.3

And some people have asked, what does Word of Wisdom have to do with polygamy?

0:52.5

In early Mormonism, all of these things are

0:54.8

intertwined. They're all influencing each other. One of the reasons I started out talking about

0:59.8

the Word of Wisdom was I was looking into this family, this plural family, of John Conrad Nagel.

1:50.4

episodes on the history of the Word of Wisdom, you need to do that because it's going to give

1:54.5

some background on why we're talking about this. What we do have are family histories about John Nagel and there is a book published

2:04.0

and it's in the Dixie State Archives about John Nagel. John Nagel was of German descent. He was

2:12.0

born in 1825 in Bavaria, Germany and he came to America and settled in Indiana with his parents in 1832.

2:19.6

His surname, like I said, was changed from Nagel to N-A-L-S-O-E.

2:22.5

So it shows up in both.

2:24.2

N-A-I-L-E, and some of his descendants don't realize that.
