Returning to the familiar and comfortable aspects of your past can often serve as a reprieve from the stresses of real life.

Like coming home for the summer after your first year of college, all the old comforts are still there. It's just good for the soul. It gives

you time to pause and reflect and most importantly to relax. However, as we can all attest these days, while spending time in quiet isolation can be

a respite, it gets old surprisingly quickly. I don't know about you, but I gave up my definitely

gonna stick with it this time, meditation and yoga routine in about two days. Imagine that you live a life in which you've grown

used to the blood and smoke of combat and action, to the tranquility of the

open sea and to the dangers of the open sea.

How would you fare giving that up for farming?

Thomas Payne did just that in 1680.

He returned to Massachusetts Bay and built the oldest surviving windmill in Massachusetts.

This would have been a perfect time for him to settle down, to buy a house and to retire from

a life of roving, and maybe it was intended to be, but it wouldn't last. In only a very few short months
