It's early 1942 and the Nazis are racing to build an atomic bomb.

They have the scientist, they have the will, what they don't have is enough heavy water

and essential ingredient needed to build Hitler's wonder weapon.

And clearly such a next generation weapon is needed.

As the USSR, under Stalin, has failed to collapse in on itself, at the end of 1941, as

Derführer had famously predicted.

And now the industrial might of the United States is officially an Allied partner.

And now the Allies are working on their own wonder weapon and are on the same path as

the Nazi scientists.

The race is on to see who can create the first atomic bomb.

While the Americans with British help are struggling to be the first, Britain must make sure

the German effort is hampered, as London would surely be the first to feel the effects

of a Nazi success.

However, the Nazis Achilles heel is the Norwegian plant Norse Hydros Vemork, which is the only

entity in the world producing the heavy water.

It's currently in Nazi hands, but the process is slow, which brings us to our guest.

With us today is Neil Bascom, the author of Hunting Ikeman, how a band of survivors and

a young spy agency chase down the world's most notorious Nazi.

To discuss his latest book, The Winter Fortress, the epic mission to sabotage Hitler's

atomic bomb.
