Summary

The 30s are a decade where many (obviously not all) but many people experience 2 MAJOR life milestones: marriage and kids. We imagine that each of those events is like a door into a different room - on one side is the before, and after you step inside, you’re in a different room with different life circumstances - maybe kids more than marriage, but still - both are very life altering events. Mel and Janet are currently both in the same room - the one with no man and no babies! If you ever feel like all your friends are either getting married or having kids, while you’re just…not - join in on this convo! This episode was edited by Michelle Hsieh. ___________________________ L I S T E N E R S U R V E Y: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here P A R T N E R S mentioned in this episode: - First Republic: Visit firstrepublic.com - Framebridge: Get 15% off your first order with code ABG at framebridge.com - Peloton: Visit onepeloton.com - Third Love: Get 20% off your first order at thirdlove.com/ABG - Truebill: Visit truebill.com/ABG - Waterdrop: Get 15% off with code ABG15 at waterdrop.com - Zocdoc: Get the app for free at zocdoc.com/ABG S H O U T O U T ! - Give a shoutout on the podcast here. Welcome to ABG, Asian Boss Girl, a podcast for the modern-day Asian-American woman.

I'm Janet, and I'm Mel.

0:18.4

So, recently, I saw a quote that went something like this.

0:22.5

The strange thing about your 30s is that half of your friends are getting married and having kids,

0:27.4

while the other half are single, partying, going on vacations,

0:31.1

but everyone's trying to figure out health care.

0:33.7

I know that last part is kind of random, but the point is, I really, really resonated with the

0:39.2

first half of the statement. You know, I thought about how the 30s are a decade where many,

0:45.3

obviously not all, but many people experience two major life milestones, getting married,

0:52.3

and then having kids. And I imagine that each of these events is like a door into a different room.

0:59.2

On one side is the before, and after you step inside, whether it's through a marriage or after

1:05.6

having kids, you're in a completely different room with very different life circumstances.

1:11.6

Maybe kids more than marriage, but still, I think both are very life-altering events.

1:15.8

And so, that means that within this decade, at any given time, you'll have close friends

1:20.3

and social circles of people all scattered in these different rooms at different places of life

1:25.1

and experiencing very different scenes and scenarios. Caring this analogy further, it's like,

1:30.7

each room has different furniture, different paint on the walls, but the point is it's like

1:34.8

all the events and the struggles and the schedules and the priorities of these rooms are different,

1:40.1

even though we're not that far apart in age. And you know, for Jay and myself, we are currently

1:45.7

both in the same room, the one with no man and no babies. Does it ever feel like all your friends

1:51.8

are either getting married or having kids while you're just not? Yes, yes, yes, yes.

1:58.1

When you're describing like half my friends are getting married and half my friends are like,
