Hi everyone, it's Sally Clarkson and I'm sitting here with Clay. Hello everyone. And we are so

excited to start this podcast series with you about the life-giving parent. As a matter of

fact, I've been thinking this morning about how it was probably, I don't know when Sarah's

a little girl, 33 years ago. She's almost 34 this summer and we were already starting out with

ideals. We were perceiving, after living in Europe for a while, that as we moved back to America,

families were falling apart and the educational system was falling apart. Test scores were doing

terribly in America compared to other nations and moral foundations had been changed and so

Clay and I began really pondering and imagining then what could we do? First of all, we weren't

prepared to be parents but we were idealistic about it because of our discipleship background

and we thought, how can we disciple our kids and mentor them in such a way that they grow

up with a vision for living into their potential as people made in the image of God as people

who could influence their world. So we're going to be talking to you about parenting because since

that time we've only grown more and more in our faith and in our belief that the job that you have

in raising the next generation is profoundly important to the history of your life and to God.

So Clay has been working on ideas from this book for a long time. Clay, tell us kind of just your

overview of why you think this book could really help parents. Well, just to pick up where you were

talking about way so many years ago with Sarah, really this book comes out of that time in our lives.
