Summary

When Keith Giroux decided to run the Boston Marathon he had a number of logistical hurdles to overcome. For starters, he hadn't run a qualifying race. In fact he'd never run any formal race ever. Then there was the issue of gear. He didn't own a pair of running shoes or running shorts. And he only had ten days to solve all these problems. Also he was in jail. When I decided to do the Boston Marathon on the treadmill, there were quite a few different

0:50.2

obstacles.

0:52.1

First of all, I hadn't trained for it.

0:54.1

I was confident that I could do it,

0:56.1

but I wasn't sure how long it would take. Keith's goal was to run the race in less than four hours.

1:01.7

So the first problem was finding a four-hour window throughout the day where we didn't have

1:10.6

programs or classes going on in the jail or where we didn't have

1:13.8

to be locked in ourselves for a headcount.

1:16.1

The original plan was to start running on the morning of April 18th at the same time

1:20.4

the Boston Marathon began.

1:22.0

But unfortunately, due to some other things we had going on in the jail, that wouldn't have

1:27.3

been possible. So I had to actually jail, that wouldn't have been possible.
