And for decades, we've, as family physicians, have really been encouraged to

use opioids to manage chronic pain. And it turns out that really the evidence is based on

uncontrolled studies reporting low rates of addiction. Most trials of opioids for chronic pain

are only six weeks in length. And we've learned more and more about the harms of opioids for chronic pain are only six weeks in length.
