Hey everyone, Emily Abadi here. Welcome back to another episode of Hurtle. This week's pod is truly special. In it, you'll meet Amy Purdy, a Paralympist and Snowboard Champ, who is without a doubt one of the most down-to-earth awesome humans I've ever had the fortune of interviewing. We recorded this when I was out in Colorado

at the GoPro Mountain Games and it was kind of surreal when she walked into my hotel room

because I had just watched her clip on Lewis Howe's podcast. I had read her excerpt from Oprah's book,

The Wisdom of Sundays, peeking at clips from her time on Dancing with the Stars, Amy's a big deal. In 1999,

at just 19 years old, her whole life changed after contracting a form of bacterial meningitis.

Doctors gave her a 2% chance of living, and due to a lack of circulation, she lost both of her

legs below the knee.

The craziest part is that she's so darn thankful for all of it for making her into the

woman that she is today.

A lot of people would have had a hard time keeping that same positive perspective that Amy's

been able to maintain, and that's why this episode is so epic.

In it, we talk about how all of that went down,

how she got back on the mountain to do a sport that she loved

and worked her tail off all the way to the Paralympic podium,

scoring bronze in 2014 and silver in 2018.

There is no shortage of inspiration to come,

and also a few tears were from both sides of the microphone.
