Summary

Classic Albums is a British documentary series about pop, rock and heavy metal albums that are considered the best or most distinctive of a well-known band or musician or that exemplify a stage in the history of music. In 2001, Classic Albums: Metallica was released. From the liner notes: "The story of the making of this remarkable album is told here via exclusive interviews with band members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Jason Newsted, archive footage and performance, and contributions from producer Bob Rock. Featuring the five singles from the album, Enter Sandman, Sad But True, "The Unforgiven", "Wherever I May Roam" and "Nothing Else Matters", this is the compelling story of one of the biggest selling albums of all time, a true Classic Album." In this episode we watch Classic Albums: Metallica with running commentary. We also speculate on the future of the band, which Metallica albums have our favorite guitar tone and future episodes of Metal Up Your Podcast. Enjoy!

It's a great series.

1:12.2

It's a really great series that it's, I didn't know that it was actually produced in the

1:16.4

UK.

1:17.2

Oh, I didn't know that.

1:17.9

It's a UK documentary series.

1:19.1

How about that?

1:19.6

And this is an interesting thing.

1:20.8

The reason that we're tackling this at this point in the podcast is because it came out in 2001, which was what we covered in our last episode. It was recorded at the

1:28.1

end of 2000. And apparently during the filming of this series is when things came to a head with Jason

1:35.1

and James regarding Echo Brain. Yeah. So I'm curious to see it again, knowing that, to see if there's any

1:40.5

tension. See any of that? Most of it is James and Lars sitting at a console with Bob Rock, pulling up stuff.

1:47.7

But we're going to watch it together and have a good time and celebrate the Black album.

1:51.7

Yeah, and again, this series is really, really something fun to watch if you're into certain

1:56.2

bands.

1:56.6

Even if you don't like a certain artist or maybe haven't gotten into them, it's a great in-depth look
