I'm How did I not see this coming?

Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Year of Pugami podcast.

I'm your host, Lindsay.

And we're returning to something that I haven't done for a while.

We're going back to some more Mormon history.

So you can either rejoice or be bored out of your mind.

I hope you'll forgive me.

I have a cold this summer, a lingering cold that I got down in Short Creek that is not going away,

which is probably the Lord punishing me for my wickedness, which to that I say

fair and deserved. Regardless, I want to do a mini-series this summer about something that I've been

wanting to talk about for a really, really long time, because it's a part of Mormon history

that doesn't often get talked about, and it is

completely fascinating. We focus most of our efforts as Mormon historians on Navu and

Kurtland and Palmyra. But Mormonism was happening in a lot of different areas in the world,

and we've tried to cover some of that in the podcast.

But what we haven't talked about, or at least focused on specifically, are the Mormons in Boston,

Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Mormons. It's actually a huge part of Mormonism. New England really

does shape Mormonism. I've been to Boston several times now. I have friends that live

there. They're still a very vibrant Mormon community there. It's impossible to go to Boston and not

see the influences of the culture and history there on early Mormonism. So we're going to talk about

that, particularly the women, because the story of Boston Mormonism

really is about women. In fact, the first converts, the first 25 people baptized were mostly women
