Among other things, recently in the region, the northwestern Slavic tribes, led by their

chiefdom Tomislav, have put a new kingdom on the map.

Croatia.

Fast forward 900 years.

Slav's kingdoms still exists, but it has long been conquered by and subjugated to the

Habsburg Austrian Empire.

But not for much longer.

Croatia will soon break away to help form a new country, an experiment unique to the

20th century.
