Summary

In this episode of the Mama Bear Apologetics podcast, Amy and Tricia Scribner continue their series on arguments for the existence of God by exploring the moral argument, also called the “right and wrong argument.” They explain that if objective moral laws exist, then there must be a moral lawgiver behind them. The conversation carefully distinguishes between descriptive statements (“what is”) and moral or prescriptive statements (“what ought to be”), arguing that morality cannot arise from impersonal forces or mere social convention.

Amy and Tricia address several common objections to objective morality, including moral relativism, emotional subjectivism, and Darwinian evolutionary explanations for morality. Drawing from thinkers such as C.S. Lewis, Frank Turek, Norman Geisler, and Francis Schaeffer, they demonstrate how universal moral principles exist across cultures even when customs differ.

The hosts also discuss the Euthyphro dilemma and explain the Christian understanding that goodness flows from God’s very nature rather than existing independently of Him. Throughout the episode, they provide practical ways parents can help children recognize objective morality through movies, discussions, discipline, and everyday experiences.

1:01.3

Well, we have just had an amazing time with our resident Nana Bear, Tricia Scribner,

1:05.8

and what we have been doing, especially over these last two episodes, is looking at the top reasons that Christianity

1:12.3

is true and providing evidence through arguments on the existence of atheistic God.

1:18.4

Now, over our past two episodes, we've looked at two particular arguments.

1:22.4

The first one was the Kalam cosmological argument, otherwise known as the cause and effect

1:27.3

argument. And then we took a look at the teleological argument, otherwise known as the cause and effect argument. And then we

1:28.8

took a look at the teleological argument, which can otherwise be known as the order and design argument.

1:35.0

Now, the third one we want to look at today is another powerful argument for the existence of a

1:39.7

theistic God through morality, otherwise known as the moral argument. So a fun way to refer to it is,

1:46.1

you know, we have the cause and effect. Now we've got with morality, it's the right and wrong

1:50.8

argument. And what we're going to learn today is that if there is anything that is objectively

1:55.3

right and wrong, then it had to have come from a source and that had to be a moral being, specifically, which we'll get to.

2:02.8

We'll get to God.

2:03.9

Now, what's wonderful about these arguments is these are very easy to remember.
