Today we're beginning our look at the English colonization of North America, and I don't intend to waste any time.

Before the English arrive, though, I do want to give a brief breakdown of the people that were living in the region, into which the English would first settle.

The Native American people in the region were collectively called the Secotan people.

That was a confederation of Algonquin speaking people. people that lived on the

lived on the coast of modern day North Carolina.

Mainly they lived in and around the Albemarle and Pamlico sounds.

There are three tribes that concern us today.

The Roanac and the Croatan, the first two, lived on two islands in the bay that the English gave the same names,
