Summary

In this week's episode of The Stephen Kingcast, I examine Stephen King's first collection of short stories: Night Shift. Rather than analyzing each one, I analyze the remaining short stories that I didn't touch upon last week.  Please note that this episode originally aired on July 10, 2017, which was three years after last episode, so some of the things discussed in last episode never came to fruition the way that we had hoped, and as you'll see from this episode, things discussed here never came to pass, either. But unbeknownst to all of us, in just a little bit over a month, the manhole covers on the streets of Stephen King IP were about to explode out of the ground and shoot farther than we could have possibly imagined. . .It: Chapter One was right around the corner. . . During the time of this original recording, I examined the stories I hadn't covered three years prior, answered listener e-mail, discussed some potential Stephen King movie news (www.onefortheroad2018.com) and peddled some dope t-shirts (http://www.ka-tet19.com) As always, write in at stephenkingcast@yahoo.com Follow me on Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook and Bluesky. And this week what I am doing, I am diving back into Stephen King's one of his earliest publications,

0:19.7

the 1978 short story collection,

0:22.5

his first collection of short stories, Night Shift.

0:26.2

Now, just a little bit of podcast, news information, a little bit of orientation as you make

0:36.0

you right through this episode.

0:38.8

If you listen to the last episode, you'll know that at the original time of the first release of the Night Shift review

0:45.8

in 2014, I only covered about half of the stories within the collection.

0:56.2

And then the episode that you're going to listen to now originally aired in on July 10th, 2017.

1:06.5

So last episode, I kind of gave you all a warning that there might be some temporal confusion if you listen to this, because you might get some anecdotes or some pop culture news that never came to be or might ground you in a particular time period.

1:29.6

So, for instance, if you are just going through these episodes now, chronologically,

1:35.6

the last episode was the night shift part one.

1:38.1

But within the night shift part one, which was recorded originally in 2014,

1:43.4

I discussed the potential casting of Matthew McConaug as Randall Flag for a stand

1:52.9

adaptation for the big screen by Warner Brothers that never wound up getting made.

1:58.3

As we all know, Matthew McConaughey wound up portraying a version of Randall Flag as

2:05.0

The Man in Black in the much maligned Dark Tower movie, which, it just so happens, came out

2:12.5

in the summer when I recorded the episode that you're about to listen to.

2:17.1

So there's a three-year jump from where you last left off to where you're listening to now

2:23.2

and what was discussed and dreamed about.

2:29.6

And the last episode never came to fruition or kind of like a nightmare.
