Episode 15 holding action. In 853 BC, Egypt had briefly emerged from its post-collapse isolation in order to join the anti-Assyrian

coalition at the Battle of Karkar.

The Egyptian Pharaoh at the time was Osurcon the second from the Libyan meshwest tribe

that dominated the 22nd ruling dynasty. After reunifying upper and lower

Egypt, yes again in the early part of his reign, the

Surcon spent the succeeding decades working to maintain the country's cohesion

and also undertook major building projects throughout the kingdom.

Unfortunately, Egyptian unity did not outlast his passing.
