Thanks for joining. When's the last time you read Leviticus? My guess is, either a long time ago or probably never.

And in today's chapter, the writer of Hebrews recalls the tabernacle

or temple in such a way that if we're not super familiar with the Book of Exodus and Levitical

law, we're not going to fully understand everything the author is telling us about Jesus in

today's chapter. So to catch us up, in the book of Exodus, God's people, they're freed from

slavery in Egypt, and find themselves at the base of Mount Sinai. God sets the Israelites apart as a

holy nation, and he gives them the law, instructions for living life in light of their newfound

freedom. And God, he institutes the tent of meeting, the place where God's

presence dwelt, and there were all these special items inside the tent. The altar of burnt

offerings for animal sacrifices, think, atonement through sacrifice. The bronze basin, for cleansing,

the symbolic meaning here was spiritual renewal, the lampstand, seven lamps that were symbolic of spiritual illumination, the table of showbread, 12 loaves for the 12 tribes of Israel representing spiritual sustenance, and the altar of incense.

It was a sweet aroma, and the symbolic meaning was supplication.

And then, in the most inner part of the tent of meeting, there was the Ark of the Covenant and the symbolic meaning was supplication. And then, in the most inner part of the tent of meeting,

there was the Ark of the Covenant and the Mercy Seat.

The Ark contained a copy of the Ten Commandments,

Aaron's budding staff, and manna from the wilderness.

So when you think of the Ark, think, access to God.

And then there was the Mercy Seat.

That's where the blood was spilled and think

presence of God. But when Exodus ends, Moses can't go into the tent of meeting where God's
