The An American runs a nightclub in an exotic land.

Though his goal is always making a buck, he can't help but land in trouble.

And there's a hard-nosed captain of the local police who's always around and

looking into his business.

It's the plot of Casablanca, and of Rocky Jordan, a mystery adventure series inspired by Bogart's Rick Blaine as well as is Sam Spade.

For almost seven years on radio, Rocky Jordan found danger and intrigue around every corner in a beat miles away

from the mean streets of an American city.

A St. Louis native, Rocky was the owner of the Cafe Tambourine, a watering hole not far from Cairo's

Mosque Sultan Hassan. Although he wasn't a detective by trade, Rocky had the unfortunate luck of landing in the middle of murder plots, smuggling

operations, and other clandestine dealings.

Rocky was usually looking out for himself, but his conscience and his moral code compelled him to act when a friend

was in trouble, or, more often than not, to save his own skin.

The series began as a man called Jordan, a five night a week serial that premiered in 1945.

In that series, Jordan's club was in Istanbul, and he was more of an adventurer than a detective. The show

aired in that 15-minute serialized format from January to July when it

switched to a weekly 30- version, a man called Jordan aired until

April of 1947. Demand from listeners brought Rocky back in a new series and a new

locale. He'd moved from Istanbul to Cairo.

Retitled Rocky Jordan, the series premiered on October 31st, 1948,

and it began to take on more of a detective angle.

It added the character of Captain Sam Sabaya of the Cairo Police.

The relationship between Rocky and Sabaya was similar to that of Rick and Captain Renault in Casablanca.
