My name is Nick Palmaschano and it is my absolute pleasure to welcome you all here tonight. There are people in this

world that complain about problems. There are people in this world that help other people

solve problems and then there are people that take

giant unimaginable problems on their own shoulders and see them to their rightful conclusion.

I of course am talking about Sarah Verardo.

When her husband was badly wounded and she did not like the way that she had to deal with the process of getting him help, she started working with the independence

fund and has grown it to this amazing organization that it is today.

When Afghans needed help as Afghanistan was falling, she put together a group of people to go over there,

connected all the dots so that that mission was possible, and is responsible for saving 12,000 Afghans.

When, when Sarah saw that veterans needed to be treated differently when dealing with law enforcement in order to keep both them and law enforcement safe and high intense situations,

she created the Veterans Justice Initiative and worked with the

amazing North Carolina legislature to put in place laws that protected veterans and

law enforcement and that program is running to great success. There is

literally nothing she is afraid of taking on and she has realized that the suicide epidemic among veterans is

significant and so here we are today the latest challenge that Sarah

Barardo has taken on that she most assuredly will conquer.
