religious movements in the Roman Empire during the first century AD, the state religion

and the mystery religions. These two were manifestations of Greco-Roman paganism.

The third and final religious movement we are going to look at,

and that strongly influenced early Christianity, is Judaism.

We are going to specifically look at the situation of Judaism in the first century A.D.

This is the end of what is known as the Second Temple period.

Judaism was a well-established religion by the 1st century AD.

We're talking about a religious movement that was around for several millennia before the 1st century AD.

In this episode, we will take a very brief look at the origins of Judaism

so that we can take a closer look at the first century situation in detail.
