Summary

What do you do when you implement Planned Emancipation but things don't seem to be getting any better? It's not uncommon that we hear from parents who feel that Feeding The Mouth parenting isn't making the kind of difference they were expecting. To address this, Dr. Ken clarifies what kind of expectations are realistic for Feeding The Mouth parenting. Also, we focus on the intangibles that can cause teenagers to still feel over-controlled even though parents are trying to give freedoms. So, take a deep breath, Feeding The Mouth parenting isn't always an overnight "fix" but remains an essential adjustment to your household in a culture that has no idea how to translate children into adulthood. in their family. And sometimes it's very dramatic in a short period of time. And then we also,

0:37.2

and have experienced ourselves,

0:39.9

this sort of feeling like, how long until I see results, Doc? Exactly. Exactly. I'm taking,

0:46.6

I'm taking the dosage right. And how come, and what are the side effects? Yeah. Yeah. I feel like I've given over the, a lot of freedoms, but I'm not seeing my kid

respond much differently. And so what do we do then, Dr. Ken, when we feel like it's not having

1:04.5

the results we would like to see as quickly as we would like. Well, you know, this last week,

I had some parents with that and one couple

1:13.0

in particular that I really appreciate the effort they've put in in the last six months. And so

1:18.4

they've really done the planned emancipation stuff. And they were really asking me, and I think

1:24.3

very fairly, what am I getting, when do I get something out of this? Because

1:29.1

their kid is still, as I say, doing a great imitation of someone who hates her parents' guts.

1:35.9

And they're like, you know, I don't see that we're gaining anything. And that happens, not infrequently,

1:42.8

that you don't get the results that at least you thought you were getting.

1:46.9

So the first thing I think you do is you ask yourself, what do you mean by it's not working?

1:51.5

What do you, what is working look like?

1:54.2

So I'll sometimes hear parents praise their plan emancipation for the wrong reasons.
