The In the fall of 1950, NBC had no saint and it needed a miracle. Vincent Price, the voice of Simon

Templar, was stuck overseas with only days to go before the next scheduled

broadcast of the saint and no new episode starring the Robin Hood of Modern Crime.

At the 11th hour, NBC's prayers were answered when another big screen actor donned the Saints

HALO.

Barry Sullivan never broke out into film stardom, though he enjoyed a long career on the stage and the big and small

screens for nearly 50 years. With his good looks and tall stature, Sullivan made a name for himself in supporting roles in movies like The Great

Gatsby, where he played Tom Buchanan to Alan Ladd's title character, and the Bad and the Beautiful,

replayed a Hollywood director opposite Kirk Douglas and Lana Turner.

Sullivan's radio work was relatively limited,

largely confined to appearances on the Lux Radio Theater, but in 1947 he succeeded

Dick Powell as Private Eye Richard Rogue in a

1947 summer run of rogues gallery.

Here he is in an episode from that run facing off against another radio detective

Gerald Moore.
