For the last few weeks I have been building up to Washington's famous crossing of the Delaware

Despite the hype often given to this famous act,

it really is hard to exaggerate just how important this event was to the course of the war.

Had Washington not attempted the attack or failed in its execution, there's a very good

chance that the Continental Army would have dissolved that winter and the rebellion come to an end.
